“To make a real impact in the world, you need to help change the way people think about clothes”.

Recycling plastic bottles into clothing is nothing new but raising the awareness of the value and impact of this can be enormous; we need to shift behaviours and encourage more sustainable practices in Fashion.

H&M’s conscious collection, launches every season. The collection is about moving into a more sustainable future and every garment is sustainably made. Across H&M’s entire offering 26% is now made from sustainable materials and by 2020 they aim for 100% of its cotton to be sustainably sourced.

H&M are a great example of a brand who are conscious of being sustainable within fashion, with their Conscious collection. With the Fashion industry being the second biggest working industry sustainable fashion makes a huge impact on the environment.

Whether you sustain your clothes by taking care of them and making them last longer or

re-cycling / up-cycling this can still make a difference.

At H&M though it isn't just about these factors and using sustainable materials;

"the responsibility goes further than this, and spans across our entire value chain. We pose very strict demands on our suppliers, which include both social and environmental regulations, in accordance to our code of conduct; the Sustainability Commitment."

Making every aspect of a garment sustainable.

"At H&M, we are constantly on the lookout for innovative materials that can make our products more sustainable. This year our stunning Conscious Exclusive collection features pieces made from the ground-breaking material BIONIC®, a polyester made from recovered plastic from shorelines, protecting the oceans from plastic pollution."

Pharrell Williams is the creative director of bionic yarn. His documentary on the ‘plastic age’. Plastic was first marketed as a time saving alternative but it is now taking time away from our future; polluting the earth / oceans through its waste usage. “We have plasticised our planet”. Every year we make a gillion tonnes of plastic.

Actress Dia Mirza attended the preview of the new Conscious Exclusive collection- highlighting garments made of recycled shoreline waste.
